Gift Cards
Gift cards are store credit that customers can purchase and send to others. The recipient gets a unique code, enters it at checkout, and the balance is applied toward their order.
How Gift Cards Work
A customer buys a gift card for a chosen amount, either for themselves or as a gift. The recipient receives a code (via email if an address is provided) and can redeem it at checkout on any future purchase. The balance is deducted from the gift card with each use, and any remaining credit carries over until it’s spent.
Gift cards can be used across multiple purchases. If an order total exceeds the remaining balance, the customer pays the difference with their chosen payment method.
Admin Management
From Dashboard > Gift Cards, you can:
- Create a gift card. Click Create Gift Card, set an initial balance, optionally add a recipient email and internal notes, and save. If an email is provided, the code is sent automatically.
- View details. See the full card info including code, current balance, and transaction history.
- Adjust balance. Manually increase or decrease the balance with a required note explaining the reason. Useful for refunds or corrections.
- Void. Permanently disable a gift card. The remaining balance is forfeited and the code stops working. Use this for fraud cases or duplicate issuances.
- Resend email. Send the gift card code to the recipient again.
- Delete. Permanently remove the gift card from the system.
Voiding a gift card is irreversible. The remaining balance is forfeited and the code can no longer be redeemed.
Storefront Module
Enable the gift card module in your store settings to let customers buy gift cards directly from your storefront. You can configure:
- Min/max amounts. The range of values customers can choose when purchasing. These limits don’t apply to cards created by admins.
- Button layout. How the purchase amount options are displayed.
- Buy button visibility. Whether the purchase button appears on the storefront.
- Balance checker. A tool customers can use to look up their remaining gift card balance.
Customer Flow
- The customer visits the gift card section on your storefront and selects an amount.
- After payment, they (or the specified recipient) receive the gift card code via email.
- At checkout on a future purchase, the recipient enters the code to apply the balance.
- The redeemed amount is deducted from the card. Any remaining balance stays for future use.
Validation at Checkout
When a customer applies a gift card code, FluxStore checks that the code exists, has not been voided, and has a remaining balance greater than zero. If valid, the available balance (up to the order total) is applied as credit toward the purchase.
